The Ferrari Mondial revealed itself as the replacement for the 308 GT4 at the Geneva Auto Show in 1980. The car was styled by Pinninfarina and sat on a wheelbase that was 4 inches longer than its predecessor. This allowed more leg room for the rear passengers and made the 2+2 configuration much more practical than the GT4. Fewer than 7000 models and 4 versions of the Mondial were produced during its 12 year tenure. The final version of the Mondial was the Mondial T introduced for the 1989 model year. The “T” was significantly different and far more advanced than the previous three generations in that its new 3.4 liter, 300 hp V8 was longitudinally mounted, with the gearbox being transverse. The “T” offered significantly more horsepower and overall performance than any 2+2 mid-engine Ferrari prior posting 0 to 60 times of 6.2 seconds and top speeds approaching 160 MPH .
