Product Details

The first year that the Pontiac Grand Prix was produced was 1962 and it came to be similar to the other full-sized Pontiacs mainly because of the Catalina hardtop coupe style and the many standards similar to the top-line Bonneville. The biggest difference between the models was the featured taillights and the distinctive grille. Some of the great features they made standard for even the first year included the padded instrument panel, deluxe steering wheel, courtesy lights and other great options usually only found in the top end luxury models of this era. The center console-mounted transmission shifter included a storage compartment and a tachometer. This name was carried on for a total of 7 generations and saw many changes until the end of Pontiac in 2010. This is a great example of the 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix and how it stood the day it was originally made. With what is believed to be the original 302 HP engine with four-barrel carburetors and the 3-speed automatic transmission, this vehicle is a great runner with a very low amount of miles showing! Matching up to the original specification of this ride you find the dual exhaust system, 8-lug aluminum wheels and what was called the “Wonder Touch” power steering. The exterior shows extremely well with a great new coat of “Magic Mirror” lacquer paint in the original color of that era, a new set (including spare) of radial tires and chrome garnish moldings really throw it back to its heritage. The interior sits as if it were built recently with a wonderfully matched sepia brown material covering the seats, deep loop carpets laid throughout, dual ash trays with cigar lighter, full instrument panel cushion pad and the DeLuxe radio with manual antenna. A few additional options that came with this model include an HD radiator with oil cooler, windshield washer with two-speed wiper blades, the battery has been replaced with a Delco battery and the Cool Pack air conditioner which we are told came installed from the dealership is not currently installed but comes with this great vehicle to be either installed again or to be left out to make room for the tachometer currently installed on the center console. Many other great little features rest within this vehicle and not many of these first year Grand Prix are out there and show as well as this one! A great find for those who enjoy a non-molested, great running early 60's Pontiac!
