Porsche developed the 914 as a replacement for its beloved 912, the four cylinder version of the 911. The 914 was intended to be a mass produced vehicle that would be built in conjunction with Volkswagen. When unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1969, it was somewhat unexpected as it did not resemble a Porsche or a Volkswagen. The car, however, with its mid-engine configuration, demonstrated balance and handling capabilities that few have achieved and packaged it into an affordable sports car that would appeal to the masses. The 914 offered 3 variations with the 4 cylinder engine configuration: the 1.7 and 1.8 were inexpensive enough to attract buyer, but the person that wanted to save a little money but still have a fun car to drive in all gears optioned for the 2.0 liter that had more low end torque and more total horsepower. This three owner, 914 2.0 liter was purchased new in the Minneapolis MN area and remained in that area until our recent acquisition. Records indicate that this car has changed hands only twice in its life time. The second owner acquired the car April 11, 1988 then again transacted in 2004. All three owners were owner enthusiasts as the car lead a charmed life of as being a weekend driver, an autocross competitor and an automotive concours participant. As a result of proper ownership and a complete restoration completed in 2007, today the car presents itself in excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically. The car is optioned with the appearance package, Fuchs wheels, 2.0 liter fuel injected 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed gear box, etc. Other features include a brand new, fully correct interior, professionally applied guards red paint, all new seals, freshened mechanicals, new suspension bushings, etc. All aspects of this 914 2.0 liter have been addressed. Mechanically, the car is excellent in every respect. It pulls strong in every gear, shifts with precision, tight handling and steering, and stops straight and true. Cosmetically, the presentation is excellent. Overall, this is one of the finest 914 2.0 liters that has graced our showroom floor. It is no secret that the Porsche market is on fire with nearly every model rapidly increasing in value. The 914 has gained much traction over the last two years and high caliber cars such as the 2.0 liter present here are in high demand in all four corners of the globe. This, coupled with the driver / machine connection that these cars offer, values are on the rise and 2.0 liter 914's are proven investments.
