International Harvester developed the Scout as a precursor of more sophisticated SUV's to come. The only other 4-wheel drive recreational vehicles offered at the time were Jeeps. The Scouts became known for their ability to go anywhere and have high durability. They are a key part of automotive history being considered the first SUV . The Scout 800 was the replacement for the 80, it came with upgraded heating system and bucket seats. This classic International 1968 Scout 800 came to us from a long stay in the dry and sunny climate of California. It features a fresh paint job dressed in a glossy red over a fresh black interior. The interior was rhino-lined and given Corbeau seats with a bench in the back. The gauges were also replaced at the time of restoration. The power plant consists of a Ford 289 v8 mated to a 4 speed manual transmission. The Scout runs and handles as it should. This sweet SUV was given all new wiring and front disc brakes and a roll cage. The front and rear bumpers are custom and covered in a glossy black finish with tow hooks. It is equipped with a tow receiver and dual gas tanks which were re-conditioned with custom caps. While classic SUV's are on a steady incline in value, this 4x4 is a smart investment or addition to any collection.
