Related to the Tempest/LeMans the first generation GTO was considered by some to have started the trend of muscle cars. It was selected by Motor Trend as their “Car of the year” in 1968. The first GTO was an option package for the Tempest, avaialbe with the two-door coupe, hardtop and convertible body styles. The $295 package included a 389 Cubic in V8 rated at 325 HP which came with a 4-barrel carb, dual exhaust, 3-speed manual trans and a variety of other compliments. Optional equipment included a four-speed manual and a more powerful Tri-Power carb set up. This exceptional GTO offered here has the optional 4-speed manual trans and 4-barrel carb set up. This particular car has been restored and is in excellent condition both inside and out. There is a couple flaws in the driver side seat but the rest of the interior is excellent. The mechanics of the car are in exceptional condition with everything working as it should. Runs, drives and stops and is ready to be enjoyed. You could immediately show this car or drive as it is was meant to be. The car comes with PHS documentation, build sheet and a copy of the window sticker.
