The third generation of the Impala dated 1961-1964 and was now more trim and boxy than the previous generation. In 1961, the Impala SS (Super Sport) was introduced to the market. The SS badge was to become Chevrolet's signature of performance on many models, though it often has been an appearance package only. The Impala's factory SS package in 1961 was truly a performance package when so equipped from the factory with both the trim and "mandatory" suspension and engine upgrades. For 1964, the Impala was restyled to a more rounded, softer look. The signature taillight assembly had an "upside-down U" shaped aluminum trim strip above the taillights, but the individual lights were surrounded by a body-colored panel. This Impala has had lots of updates but as well has a lot of the parts that according to the owner are still original, the owner states the body has never been cut, the 4-speed manual transmission is numbers matching as well as what appears to be the original shifter, the factory radio is still in the car but is currently not working. Looking at what had been done to this '64 there is a rebuilt big block that is .40 over 454ci V8 pushing out nearly 500 horses. A lot of upgrades were done to the engine including Pro-Comp aluminum heads, Holley 750 double pump carburetor, COMP 660 lift cam, Diamond pistons, Howards billet double timing set, and roller rockers and a Ram heavy duty muscle clutch. To go with all of these hopped up parts there is a Flowmaster muffler and 2 ½'' dual exhaust. The owner has stated there is a new gas tank and sending unit this car is running on Yokohama Z-rated tires and Coy C5 wheels. There is full Ridetech tubular suspension, and adjustable shocks all around and adjustable coil overs in the front. The outside of this SS is something that cannot be looked over, the red paint looks beautiful and the chrome accents look like mirrors, not to mention the red leather interior and matching dash of this Impala looks like it could be new with all of the SS badges, all of the gauges appear to be original and are still functioning with an added Sport-Comp tachometer. For such an iconic name in auto, this is a great example for all of your senses!
