In 1958 Ford made the decision to radically change the very popular Ford Thunderbird 2 seat roadster to a much larger, family oriented vehicle. This decision would prove to be a wise business decision, however it left many motoring enthusiast pining for the sporty, open intension of the first generation birds. In 1962, ford produced a limited variant of their sleeker third generation convertible, the Sports Roadster. The 1962 Thunderbird Sports Roadster models are among the most prized of all Thunderbird with only 1427 total produced. The package consisted of Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with knock off spinners, and most notably a fiberglass tonneau that covering the rear seat creating the 2 seat roadster configuration. Of the 1427 Sports Roadsters produced in 1962, 119 of them were equipped with the desire “M” code 390 / 340 HP engine with tri-power carbs and intake. We are pleased to present this lovely 1962 Ford Thunder Factory “M” Code Sports Roadster for consideration. This car features its factory 390 / 340 hp Tri-power motor mated to an automatic transmission. Options include “M” code package, power convertible top, Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with spinners, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power top (works flawlessly) and “Swing-away” steering column. The car is finished in its original color combination, Raven Black on Black Vinyl interior, White convertible top. Today, the car remains in excellent condition. The 20+ plus year old restoration has held up remarkably well as it has been held in one private collection of classic vehicles since. Mechanically, the car is wonderful to drive possessing a very confident feel coupled with the power of the M-code 340hp motor. 1962 Ford Thunderbird “M” Code Sports Roadsters are highly sought after cars that are often copied. A true Factory example such as this are very rare and an excellent automotive investment.
