Product Details

It is no secret that we love interesting cars as well as quality originals, this P1800S is an example of both. The P1800 Sports Coupe seemed to come out of nowhere. It took everyone by surprise when it arrived in 1961 as Volvo was considered a sober Swedish automaker known to most Americans for plain looking, utilitarian family cars. The beautifully shaped low roof and curvaceous lines combined with a Ferrari-style “eggcrate” grill and modest tailfins was completely unexpected of Volvo, but the design was as wonderful as any car available at that time. The P1800 landed a leading role in the then hit television series, The Saint, where actor Roger Moore was widely seen dashing around in his yellow P1800 for 118 episodes. Road and Track magazine wrote, (P1800) “is a true sports car of a type we can expect to become extremely popular”. The car was always garaged and stored properly for long term. At just 31283 miles, the car remains extremely original with the exception of one quality repaint completed an estimated 25 years ago. The core structure of this Volvo is outstanding as retains all its original uni-body panels, doors, hood and decklid, original floors and original rockers and all remain in amazing preserved rust free condition. The interior remains outstanding original showing the perfect amount of patina for the age of the vehicle; the leather seats remain overall excellent, the dash is excellent, the original gauges are excellent, door panels, rear sail panels, etc., all remain in very good to excellent original condition. The car is powered by its bullet proof B18 inline 4 cylinder engine fed by recently rebuilt and tuned twin SU carburetors and 4 speed manual transmission. Although no record, the engine seems to have been properly serviced and possibly rebuilt as it holds excellent oil pressure, great compression, no smoke and runs great. The car is a complete blast to drive, shifts smooth, tight suspension and proper braking. In short, it is obvious that this car has been properly kept and maintained for the past 49 years. There is zero evidence of any accidents or incidents as the original body is outstanding; straight and possess amazing fit. The trim, bumpers, wheels and wheel covers are all original to the car and again remain very good to excellent. Original Volvo radio included. The 1966 Volvo P1800S is a must consider for any collector, enthusiast who values unique cars that possess design excellence, originality and mechanical fitness. The vintage European market is red hot, that the Volvo P1800 is now poised to significantly increase in value and the example offered here is an excellent opportunity at this price.
