The WRX means “World Rally eXperimental” or “World Rally Cross”. The WRX was built with rally inspired technology, including all wheel drive, stiffened suspensions and turbo charged four cylinder engines. They debuted in Japan dating as far back as 1992. In 1994, Subaru introduced Subaru Tecnica International or STI . These versions of the WRX were upgraded models that included blueprinted performance-tuned engines, transmissions and suspensions. They were immensely successful in rallies and extremely popular among street racers around the world.
