This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe is a piece of American Automotive history, and one of the most influential cars ever built. At the time, “sports car” in the United States meant a nice little cruiser. The Corvette launched its 2nd generation with the birth of the Stingray with a complete redesign barely resembling its predecessors. The Stingray was lighter, had independent suspension, and was aerodynamically tested. The only American cars that could produce similar speed were large, heavy Super Stock optioned Mopars and Super Duty Pontiacs. The United States had produced a true all-around sports car. 1963 Corvette Coupes are affectionately nicknamed “Split Windows” after the divided rear window that was eye-catching but also controversial. GM Head Designer Bill Mitchell fought Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov for the inclusion of the feature. After the 1963 model year, the GM executives sided with Duntov and the Split Window was just a one-year happening. The distinction of this rare look, and the birth of the stingray causes Split Windows to be one of the most highly sought after American collector cars. This Splitter has a unique history owned by the same owner since 1968. The previous owner had received the car as a birthday gift from his father, who had the car customized at (historic) The Vette Shop in Detroit with beefed up work to the Cam, pistons, headers, and suspension. The car has been treasured throughout its history, and went through a bare metal paint job in 2000 by Pyramid Restorations. Featuring the aftermarket hood, Epic wheels, stainless side pipes, popup headlights, electronic ignition, Hurst shifter, and more, this car is turn-key reliable, fast, and a lot of fun to drive. It's powered by a rebuilt 327ci V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. This is a great car to drive with an interesting history, and it involves maybe the most iconic body in automotive history. What's not to love? We do hold paperwork and extensive documentation here!
