Product Details

Chrysler, with much fanfare, introduced its glamorous Town and Country Convertible in the spring of 1946. Their aggressive ad campaigns created such buzz of interest that it is reported that the car went into production directly off of design sketches, skipping the traditional clay models and prototypes. 1949 marked the second series for the Town and Country Convertible, it featured less wood and mor flush mounting around the fenders. Also, the veneer decal was not applied to the car allowing the body color to show through. The wood was Ash, it was hand assembled at Perkin Wood Products in Helena, Arkansas prior to being attached to the car. This helped comprise the hefty price tag of $3970.00, some 20 percent higher than the standard New Yorker convertibles. This 1949 Chrysler Town and Country is a 3 owner car, the second owning the car for approximately 40 years. The car has been selectively restored to an extremely high standard all while preserving its original integrity. It retains all its original sheet metal, original wood, original Spitfire straight 8 engine and drivetrain, original unrestored seats, and the firewall still boasts the original paint with the factory markings. The chrome has been 100% restored by Finni Finish, the brake lines, fuel lines, electrical harness, brakes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, booster, etc. are all new, proper NOS parts. The clutch assembly and linkage have been rebuilt, the radio and clock have been restored, all the gauges function properly and the power top hydraulics are in excellent working order. The engine and drivetrain and mechanical componentry are spot on, creating a reliable and wonderful driving experience. Chrysler Town and Country Convertibles were important cars built for important people. Their style, elegance and drivability have yet to be duplicated. The example offered here with its masterfully finished exterior paint, wood and stainless steel accents combined with a high level of originality and an outstanding original drivetrain create a rare opportunity to acquire the best of the best. There many photos of the restoration that will verify the integrity and originality of the vehicle as well as the quality of the car prior to restoration.
