When introduced, the A a completely new design that changed the direction of the company. The cars were lower with sleek lines, for roomy interior, low seating position, and more powerful. Most importantly was the departure of their long standing “body on frame” design for a “Unibody” construction. The improvements were immediately noticeable. The car was stiffer, much more ridged and demonstrated vastly improved handling capabilities. The A transcended MG to the sports car world and to this day, the MGA is considered the best overall MG produced. The 1956 MGA offered here, chassis number HDC 43/ 10174, has been in the hands of the same owner for over 30 years until our recent acquisition. The car was built between August 8 and September 8, 1955 making it just the 74th MGA built according to BL Heritage Limited certificate. The car features an older restoration in its original Orient Red exterior paint over now Black interior with black convertible top. Heritage limited also indicates that the car was an original wire wheel car. The car shows excellent in all areas still featuring excellent exterior paint, a wonderful interior with signature banjo style wheel, very tidy engine bay and stellar underside. Mechanically, the car is just of a fresh service from University Motors in Grand Rapids, MI and drives out wonderful. The 1500 cc engine pulls strong in every gear, the suspension is tight and the handling is excellent. The exhaust puts off that distinct note of the early MG A sports cars. MGA's remain highly sought after among sports car and British motoring enthusiasts. There reliability keep them easy to own, they remain at a price point for the common man, and they have consistently gained in value over the years making them a worthy investment. These cars are elegant and sporty and well received in all motoring circles.
