First released in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was almost like an experiment considering the low production of 300 and the singular color choice (opposite of Henry, they went with Wimbledon White opposed to black). The popularity of these models was slow to grow and paled in comparison to the growing sales volume of the Ford Thunderbird in 1955. This year marked a turning point for the Corvette as they transitioned this cruiser into a more performance-minded ride by adding the 210 hp V8 engine as standard equipment mated to the 3-speed manual transmission. Growing production to a bit over 3,000 that year, they still couldn't compete and much of the blame was placed on the lack of features. These early models didn't include outside door handles and you didn't even have roll up windows so Chevrolet called in Bob Cadaret for assistance in a restyle. The now-famous side cove was added to the 1956 model as well as outside door handles, roll-up windows, options like the hard top and power windows were added and you could even opt for the power assisted soft top if wanted. A change in the markets view came quickly thereafter and Chevrolet grew their production to over 10,000 models by 1960. With its beautiful Cascade Green and Polo White exterior, hard and soft top, what appears to be original powertrain and more than drivable condition, this is sure to catch a collector or car enthusiast's eye quick! With a great deal of documentation included in this sale, the receipts that were provided to us show that the work started by one owner in the early 90's where almost all restoration and parts were purchased by a professional shop by the name of Pyramid Corvette Restorations out of Bancroft, MI. The vehicle was owned throughout the 90's and into the 2000's by the same owner until sold again to another eager owner who continued work on this classic well into 2008. With photos provided, this vehicle is shown as a frame off restoration took place and it is clear today that a great deal of craftsmanship was put into this fine ride. With both hard and soft top included in the sale, this vehicle gives you the best of both worlds and with added features like its vintage styled AM/FM/Cassette and Aux capable radio, this is sure to keep you enjoying for years. The chrome, trim, glass, wheels, tops and paint are all in good condition with only minor blemishes to be found throughout. With its smooth shifting 3-speed manual mated to its V8 engine, the enjoyment and drivability only add to the value of this ride and overall this is a great example of a classic piece of American automobile history!
