Product Details

When Ford introduced the 1st generation of Mustangs they flipped the entire automotive industry on its ear. The unibody design was much smaller, lighter, and more rigid than anything available. The long hood could accommodate a variety of engine configurations including a high performance V8. Along with the innovative design, the styling of these Mustangs has never gone out of style. The High Country Special was produced for years 1966, 1967, and 1968 as a special promotion vehicle for Colorado-area Ford dealers. 333 cars in 1966 were produced in one of three special colors: Aspen Gold, Columbine Blue, or Timberline Green (colors only available in the High Country Special and never offered again). They arrived in Denver as part of a 23 car freight train from San Jose for that first year. These cars were dressed up nicely with brass badges, pony package interior, bucket seats, and center consoles. The success of this special offering is said to have inspired the California special in 1968. This High Country Special was originally purchased at Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs, and purchased by the current owner in 1997 in Colorado Springs and brought back to Michigan. It's powered by the original 289ci V8 engine paired with the 4-speed manual transmission. This car is an awesome survivor that runs and drives great. One of only 333 of these special editions were made in 1966 and just 1,000 cars were made over the three year production.
