Grand Turismo Omologato or GTO was the idea of John DeLorean, Chief engineer for Pontiac at the time. The name was inspired by the ever so successful Ferrari race car, the 250 GTO . Others say that the name stood for “Grand Tempest Option”. No matter where the name derived, there is no doubt that the GTO is one of those models that stands out as being one of the leaders in the Muscle Car wars of the 1960's and 70's.By 1967 which was still amongst the first generation of cars underwent a few styling changes which the louvered tail lights were replaced with eight individual lights: four on each side and Rally II wheels with colored lug nuts were also available. This exciting GTO still bares its desirable factory color combination of Tyrol Blue Poly over black interior. The original 400 cubic engine has been upgraded to a 455V8 mated to its 4 speed manual transmission. Options include: Power steering, power brakes, 4 speed manual transmission, power convertible top, wood grain interior, tri-spoke steering wheel, clock, AM Radio, full size spare, jack, bucket seats, console, front disc brakes etc. Other highlights include: Aluminum radiator, open element air cleaner, chrome valve covers, aftermarket gages, newer white wall tires. The car starts right up immediately no smoke, accelerates strongly in every gear, tracks straight, steering is tight and brakes great. Top down cruising at its finest. The seats, dash, wood grain and carpet all remain in very good condition, the convertible top is excellent as well as the boot and plastic rear window., The Tyrol Blue exterior paint is very nice and the original frame and undercarriage is very good as well with no rot visible. The Pontiac GTO is an American icon and the GTO is credited as being the first “Muscle Car”. The car offered here is a fantastic driving example that is ready for just about anything.
