The Ford Mustang 1st generation does not get the credit it deserves. Upon introduction it was so wildly popular that it created not only copy cats, but a whole new class of automobile. The pony car was born and Detroit muscle had a new platform to tear down the street in. It was new, it was innovative, it was sporty and it was smaller than what the American public was used to seeing. It was an instant sensation and its popularity still reigns, and its timeless design is still incorporated in today's Mustang. The 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible offered here is a neat example of the first generation coupe. It is powered by its proven 289 small block V8 engine along with a 4 speed manual transmission that it is strong in every gear and offers very smooth shifting. This Pony received a full restoration in early 2014 by Wilkey & Kring Motorsports located in Athens, TN. According to the owner, less than 2000 miles have been driven since the full restoration, the 289 engine was rebuilt, the carburetor was replaced and upgraded to a 4-barrel Holley carb, ignition fully upgraded to a solid state electronic ignition system, the 4 speed manual transmission was rebuilt, a new clutch, a new pressure plate, the rear end was rebuilt (2.80:1), the body was repainted to the very sharp “Poppy Red” which is done very well and looks excellent, a full power convertible top that is in line new condition, a new dual exhaust system, the floor pans and torque boxes are solid, and much more. All features of the car work nicely and the fit and finish is very clean and pure. A very well done exterior/interior restoration and also mechanically, this 1965 Mustang is a proven driver, and is turnkey and ready for immediate use. The Ford Mustang remains an American icon and is hands down, one of the most recognizable cars ever produced. These cars have a loyal following that continues to grow and for this reason are globally sought after. A classic first gen mustang in great condition such as the car offered here remains on the bucket list of many.
