Product Details

The Lincoln Continental's first generation was one of the top shelf pre- WWII full classics that Ford looked to bring back (in the mid-50's) their claim as offering the most luxurious vehicle in America. Ford decides to start a 4th division, as Lincoln was viewed as more affordable as it was before WWII . Hence, the Mark II is technically a Continental Mark II even though it's the only model the Continental division ever brought to market. The Continental Mark II was built intentionally with no thought of cost-cutting whatsoever with hand-built construction, it being the most expensive American produced car, and Ford taking a loss of about $1,000 per car. About 1,300 were sold in the last quarter of 1955 after the car's October debut at the Paris Motor Show; another 1,300 or so in 1956; and 444 in 1957, some with factory-installed air conditioning. Initially, Ford accepted losses on the Mark II in return for the prestige with which it endowed its entire product line; but after going public, tolerance for such losses fell. Famous owners included Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, the Shah of Iran, and a cross section of the richest men in America. This '56 Continental Mark II in Dark Grey Metallic is a beautiful example of the full luxury classics. It's powered by the 368ci V8 4- BBL engine paired with the 3-speed automatic transmission. This car was full luxury and this car features power windows, deluxe leather interior, dual exhaust, Travel Master AM radio, tinted glass, power steering, power brakes, and much more! This car has a really high current condition while maintaining a lot of originality and style from the period it was built. This low production, special edition car is not only a great cruising car but has all the signs of a great investment as well.
