Perhaps the most recognizable car ever produced is the De Lorean DMC – 12. This car was the brain child of Ex-GM's famed executive, John Z. DeLorean, at a young and eager age had risen to rule the Pontiac and Chevrolet divisions of giant General Motors. Growing tired of the corporate worlds slow decision making process, DeLorean left GM to race down a faster track. He set out to build something new, sporty and unlike anything anyone has seen before. He wanted it to last forever, so its skin is rust proof stainless steel. He wanted it light and strong, so its structure is glass-reinforced plastic over a central backbone frame of epoxy-coated steel. He wanted impressive performance with reasonable fuel economy and rugged durability, so he chose a light, strong, overhead cam aluminum fuel-injected 2.8 liter V6 from the PRV combine of Peugeot and Renault of France and Volvo of Sweden. He wanted sex appeal, so he hired the famous Giugiaro Ital Design of Turin to design the body's contours while integrating the stunning gull wing doors. He wanted racer-like road handling, so he contracted England's Lotus to develop a fully independent rear suspension. The result was tagged, The long awaited transportation revolution has begun, and a leader has emerged to show us the way…the 1981 DeLorean. This DeLorean is a stunning low mileage example of the classic. While the body style gets more attention than just about anything on the road, it was tough to get a lot of power after heavy government restrictions in 1979. That's why this one, like many others, was turbocharged by the Dan Pfieffer dealership that delivered it. Other than the turbocharger and an aftermarket stereo system, this is a stock DeLorean with great performance and looks. The 5-speed manual is a lot of fun and these cars, with the pop-culture popularity, are only going to increase in value.
