The Ford Galaxie was first released in 1959 by Ford Motor Company and was their full-size car. This model was named primarily to play off of the big “Space Race” that was going on between the Soviets and the United States and although this may be part of their reason for success, the model also proved to be a great buy and could be found in many different price points. In 1966 Ford decided to go for a bigger engine in an attempt to respond to the growing demand for a more docile and tractable engine compared to their popular 427 racing engine. The 428 ci (7.0L) was then created and installed in the Galaxie as well as the Thunderbird and a whole new group of car enthusiasts was created. With very few remaining 7.0L models for the Galaxie a large following was made including car collector Jay Leno. This model is not only in great shape, but is also very rare with a large following. According to 7litre.org, there are 712 known 7.0L 1966 Galaxie models remaining of which 246 were convertibles and this is one of those few left! Decoding the VIN we see that this model was originally built in Louisville, KY and is believed to have only had three owners counting the one who owns it today. The exterior shows extremely well with its metallic paint, very subtle but elegant hand-painted pin-striping completed to its exterior, a very clean and functioning vinyl soft top which comes with a brand new fitted black boot cover when down, this is a head turner even to those who don't know the 7.0L!
